In order for me to create a romantic drama film that will appeal and be a success to a wide range of people I took the time to carry out a questionnaire which enabled me to ask specific questions that will help indicate what the audience really want to see. By knowing all of this information I can then come up with a plan to create a film that will be what the majority of the audience want and will have a part of them in it, they can connect and in turn it will create a successful film.
Questionnaire Results/Analysis:
Question
1:
The
first question I set was – ‘What is your favourite part of a romantic drama
movie?’. I chose this question in order to get a rough idea of what people
would expect and want to see within a romance movie – what is the main
stereotypical aspect that they look out for. The most popular answer that
appeared from my questionnaire was the romance/love interest; I think this
reflects through the target audience as it was aimed towards females aged 15-25
therefore stereotypically they all enjoy and have an interest of watching
people fall in love. The results from this question will help with the
development and design of my products also allowing me to know what will appeal
to the majority of people. I now know to include some sort of love
interest/romance within my film, movie poster and trailer.
Question
2:
The
second question I set was – ‘What do you believe is the most important audio
convention of a romantic drama movie?. I
chose this question to help me know what is more important
soundtrack/background music or dialogue within a romantic drama so I could
apply the preferences to my romantic drama. The most common answer was the
soundtrack/background music is more important. I think the
soundtrack/background music is more important as it can relate to the characters
mood and also keep the audience interested because after a while constant
dialogue can become repetitive and boring.
Question
3:
The
next question I asked was – ‘What is the most eye-catching feature on a film
magazine cover?’. I chose this question in order for me to base my own film
magazine cover around the features that interest and catch the eyes of people
the most. This will enable me to have a successful magazine and bring in
publicity for my film itself. The results show that people find the colours of
the magazine, the image and the magazine title the most eye catching. This is
because these are the features that stand out the most and are the largest
features on the cover itself – they take up the most room.
Question
4:
For
question 4 I asked – ‘What is the best selling point on a movie poster that
will make you want to see it’. This
will enable me to have a successful movie poster and bring in publicity for my
film itself. The results were ranked in order from most to least:
1st The image
2nd The title
3rd The actors in the movie
4th The colours
5th The narrative
I feel as if the image was chosen
to be most important as it stands out the most and catches the audiences eye
straight away due to it being large and centred. It can also gives an insight
into what type of characters the film may include which will also interest
people. The title of the film came in close second and I feel as if this was
chosen because it has very similar features to the main image as its bold,
bright and catches the eye straight after you see the main image.
Question
5:
‘Do
you prefer a male or female lead role in a romantic drama movie and why?’ is
the next question I asked within my questionnaire. This helps to know what
interests the audience and what character I can consider as the lead role of my
final film. The results show that most people prefer a male lead in a romance
film because it helps the female audience to connect with the female characters
emotions as they can relate as well as the male lead having and creating
conflict with the girl which creates emotion and females of my primary audience
enjoy these emotional romance films.
Question
6:
Question
6 asked – ‘What kind of colour schemes do you associate with the romantic drama
genre?’. I asked this question to give an idea of the type of colour scheme that would be appropriate to
use for my movie poster and film magazine. The most liked colour scheme that
relates to a romantic drama is bright, loud and vibrant colours, this colour
theme was chosen because it gives off a happy vibe and reflects the romance
between the two characters. I will now add bright, vibrant colours within my
movie poster and film magazine to reflect the mood of my film and catch the
audiences eye.
Question
7:
Following
on from the colour scheme I went on to ask ‘Describe the idea of text style
within the romantic genre?’. This is another question that will again help with
the appearance of my movie poster and film magazine as well as catching the
audiences attention. The results show that people associate a fancy,
handwriting style of font for the text. This is because the font is delicate
and pretty which reflects off the love/romance aspects of the film. I will be
able to take on board these styles and interpret them into my movie poster and
film magazine.
Question
8:
In
order to generate ideas on what to include in the magazine article I asked the
audience ‘What 3 things might a magazine article contain about a romantic
drama?’. The answers included the characters themselves, the storyline and the
love interest within the film. This will give the audience an insight to the
film and get the audience interested before they even watch the film and draw
attention towards it meaning people will want to go and watch the movie when
its released.
Question
9:
Finally
I asked ‘Do you prefer movie posters that set the scene with narrative
backgrounds or plain backgrounds?’. This question was asked to find out the
audiences views on what they like to see on a movie poster. The majority of
results show that they prefer a plain background, this is because it enables
the main image to stand out and catch the eye of the audience. It will bring
more attention to itself and make people want to take more notice on what it is
about. This will enable me to produce an eye catching poster that will keep the
audience interesting and guessing about the movie itself.
